First lady might visit Fort Bragg this week!

First lady Michelle Obama has made visiting military families and improving their welfare a priority during her husband’s presidency.
Next week, she may be bringing that agenda to Fayetteville and Fort Bragg.
According to at least one source, the first lady is expected to be in town to pay tribute to families of soldiers and Pope Air Force Base airmen.
The source, who is within the Cumberland County Democratic Party and is familiar with city and military affairs, said Wednesday that the first lady would stop on Fort Bragg and somewhere in the city March 12. The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, did not have further details.
Some elected officials in Fayetteville and Raleigh, along with Democratic leaders, said they’ve heard speculation about Michelle Obama’s visit but could offer no first-hand knowledge.
A spokesman for the Office of the First Lady couldn’t be reached Wednesday, and a Fort Bragg spokesman told a reporter that he hadn’t heard about an Obama visit.
Roberta Waddle, chairwoman of the county Democratic Party, said it was news to her, too, but she welcomed such a visit.
“I think she has been talking about how impressed she was with military families during the campaign,” Waddle said. “She is just following up on that, and I think that’s a good thing.”
Last fall, Michelle Obama stumped for her husband during a Fayetteville campaign stop. She spoke Oct. 29 at a Baptist conference of mostly black churches in Fayetteville. A friendly audience of about 900 packed the Fuller Recreation Center to see her.
In May, she stopped at the Rainbow Room on Hay Street to meet with Army spouses, sharing tears over their sacrifices. That visit preceded a rally at Fayetteville State University later in the day.
The issue of military families still is part of her agenda. She was in Washington on Tuesday touring the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Center at Arlington National Cemetery.
