Plane crashed in Camp Pendleton, California


CAMP PENDLETON ---- A single-engine civilian plane with three people aboard crashed at 5:50 p.m. Saturday at Red Beach on Camp Pendleton near the Las Pulgas exit from Interstate 5.Two people in the Cessna 172 were injured critically and one moderately, said Marine Lt. Riley Whaling, a spokesman for the base.
One critically injured person was flown by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and the other two victims were driven by ambulance to a hospital in Mission Viejo.Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the plane's intended destination was Montgomery Field in San Diego.
He had no information on its departure point, and no further information was available on the victims' identities or conditions.FAA investigators remained at the scene Saturday night, Gregor said. The National Transportation Safety Board also will investigate.Camp Pendleton's military police and fire department, the Oceanside Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and other agencies were involved in the initial response, Whaling said.The plane had no military connection, he said.
