Past Domestic Woes Surface for Another Paterson Aide

As if Governor Paterson doesn't have enough scandal to wade through, the New York Post has reported that another member of his administration has a questionable domestic incident lurking in his past.

15 years ago, Clemmie Harris, now a top adviser to Governor Paterson, was a State Trooper in Albany, New York. He was visiting the Grand Street apartment of his then-girlfriend, Lori Ann Guzman when an argument began.

Guzman became nervous and telephoned police. There was no allegation of violence though Guzman stated the "tone" of the argument made her nervous enough to call police.

Harris returned to his own apartment that night and police left.
Seven months later, Harris reportedly filed for early retirement from the police department allegedly citing a mental disability, although there has been no statement on what exactly that disability was.

Governor Paterson's administration and Harris, who still has an active pistol permit, on file with the Albany County clerk, have politely declined to comment on his alleged mental health disability status.

Whatever the disability, it didn't stop the Gubernatorial top aide from moving onto another high profile job with the Senate months after he left law enforcement.

Governor Paterson became friends with Harris when Harris was a State Police officer at the Capital Region. The two pals roomed together during their bachelor days and today, as a top aide to the Governor, Harris' salary has been reported at $82,400 annually.

Paterson's administration has come under scrutiny over the lives and judgement calls of his top aides as well as his own.

Most recently, State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo recused himself from the probe into whether Governor Paterson lied when he appeared before the state ethics commission.

Judith Kaye, the former chief judge of New York, will now lead the probe.

In the face of all the scandal, Governor Paterson has renounced his bid for a full term, but refuses to resign saying, "Recently, I've been the target of rumors and innuendo, but it hasn't stopped me."

Governor Paterson took office in 2008 after his predecessor, Eliot Spitzer, resigned after his prostitution scandal surfaced.
