After a string of arrests involving drug possession and a reckless driving charge that stemmed from that terrible car accident in September 2005, singer D'Angelo has once again been arrested in New York City's West Village after he allegedly offered an undercover cop $40 to perform oral copulation.
D'Angelo born Michael Eugene Archer, was said to have been cruising in his Range Rover along Greenwich and Horatio streets at approximately 2:30 a.m. on the morning of March 6 when he stopped the police officer and made the illicit offer. His publicist released a statement saying Archer has pleaded not guilty and will contest the charge against him.
His latest arrest follows a string of legal woes to hit the two-time Grammy winning singer who was arrested in January 2005 and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), and driving while intoxicated. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined and had his driver's license revoked. He received a three-year suspended sentence on the cocaine charge.

Within a week of those charges, D'angelo was critically injured in Virginia when the SUV he was passenger in hit a fence, ejecting him from the vehicle. Immediately after, Archer checked into a rehabilitation program on the island of Antigua that he left in August 2006.
In 2007, he was charged with reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. He pleaded guilty to those charges and received a nine-month jail sentence which was suspended along with a $1,250 fine and had to forfeit his operators license for 15-months.
Police reports state that Archer had $12,000 in cash stashed in his SUV when he arrested Saturday.
Fans were looking forward to the singers next album which was due out last year, but his MySpace page recently read that his album, "James River," was slated for release during late summer 2010. "James River" will be Archer's first album in over eight years.
In January, a song from the album titled '1000 Deaths' was accidentally leaked to the public and made it's way to YouTube before being removed after Archer filed a copyright claim last month.
