The NYPD said a 30-year-old woman was savagely beaten by a man who’s advances she rejected. The attack took place early Thursday morning in the bathroom of the neighborhood Irish pub in midtown on Eighth Avenue.
The unidentified woman is a 30-year-old nurse from Connecticut. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center where she underwent surgery for a fractured skull, a broken eye socket and a shattered nose. She is in critical condition.
The nightclub is a three-story building. The nurse was on the ground floor of the building where the suspect may have asked her to dance with him. She spurned his advance and left the dance floor to use the latrine.
Police believe the man followed the unsuspecting nurse to the bathroom just after 2:30 a.m. where he waited for her to enter the bathroom stall. Once inside, he kicked the door in and began savagely assaulting her by punching, kicking and knocking her to the floor where he bashed her head against the toilet. A rape kit will be performed on the victim to determine if she was sexually assaulted.
Once the victim regained consciousness, she told police she was jumped by a man who asked her for a dance at the pub. The rape kit will be performed because police say the victim’s underpants had been partially removed when she was found. However, the victim has told police she does not believe rape occurred.
The victim was found in the bathroom unconscious and badly beaten by a friend who called for police. The cowardly assailant took off after the assault. Police continue to investigate.
