The Associated Press reported that George "The Boss" Steinbrenner, the New York Yankees' owner, died after suffering a massive heart attack in his Tampa home Tuesday morning. He was 80-years-old.

Steinbrenner, known for his outspokenness and hands-on business style made him one of baseball's most controversial figures. The Ohio native's ownership of the New York Yankees began in 1973 until his death and is reported to be the longest in club history. The Yankees earned 11 pennants and won 7 World Series titles.

Steinbrenner, a graduate of Williams College in Massachusetts, was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He leaves to mourn his wife of over 50 years, Elizabeth, two sons Hank and Hal, and two daughters Jessica and Jennifer Steinbrenner-Swindal.
