The New York City Fire Department Rescue team pulled a Bronx man from the ocean off of Rockaway Beach last night after he was swept out past the breakers.
Oscar Cruz, 22, of the Bronx and his girlfriend went for a swim in the ocean off 116th Street near Rockaway Beach Boulevard just after 8 p.m. after lifeguards had left for the evening.
His girlfriend watched as FDNY rescuers carried an unconscious Cruz' ashore and rushed him to Peninsula General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
