"Billy" is based on the true events in the life of William S.A. Beal, a Black man who moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota to the isolated Swan River, Manitoba, Canada in 1906. Billy helped form the first School in the area & the first circulating library within the school system. He served on the Board of School Trustees in that area for 37 years. He was an inventor who made his own telescopes, electric fences for cattle farmers, was a carpenter, & the built the first radio in the area. He was also a photographer who archived local history & the times. Ernesto Griffith plays Billy from his late 20's until the age of 94.
The film was written & produced by Ernesto Griffith & Winston Moxam. Winston Moxam was the driector & Ernesto Griffith was the second unit director. Winston & Ernesto won the Human Commitment Award for the film in Canada.
Ernesto Griffith will be in attendance for a Q&A session after the film.
