Firecracker fem-cee and musical innovator M.I.A earned three MTV Video Music Awards nominations for her audacious "Bad Girls" video, including a nod for the highly covetted "Video of the Year" Award. Directed by the illustrious Romain Gavras, it is set in the desert and features off-the-wall Saudi drag racing stunts. Upon its premiere in early February, the "Bad Girls" video became a global smash that went viral instantaneously. Celebrities such as Kanye West, Rihanna, Missy Elliot, and Tyler the Creator tweeted out their praises for the video's innovative visuals and empowering message.
The 29th Annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 6th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The show will air live at 8pm EST.
