About "Soul Sacrifice": 

“Soul Sacrifice” is a shockingly true account of part of my adolescence and early adulthood living as as a Muslim woman and one of the wives of Malachi York, leader of what is now called The Nuwabian Nation – one of the nations largest cults.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “Soul Sacrifice: One Story of Many”?

Ruby S. Garnett: I began writing “Soul Sacrifice” for therapeutic reasons until I continued to hear how
the victims were being called liars and were pressured to legally retract their statements. (read more) 

JP: What sets "Soul Sacrifice: One Story of Many" apart from other books in the same genre?

RG: No one from the cult has ever written a personal account of their experience that has been publicized. No one really knows the kind of life we were living in there. “Soul Sacrifice” is a conversation directed at the reader. (read more) 

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to "Soul Sacrifice: One Story of Many" getting out to the public?

RG: Perseverance, determination to get “Soul Sacrifice” out, and discipline to follow through. (read more) 

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish "Soul Sacrifice: One Story of Many"?

RG: “Soul Sacrifice” took a long time – beginning to end. I was initially (from ’93-’06 ) writing in personal journals. Then between( ’07-’12) I began to type the story and with encouragement of a really good friend and family, I saved enough money to self-publish. (read more)

RG: Next is finishing “Picking Up a Thousand Pieces”. I’ve gone through so much since I left the cult. (read more)
