A New York woman is facing felony charges after police say she posed as her mother in order to defraud the woman's insurance company.

According to a press release by the Rockland County District Attorney's Office, Jill Gessner of Pomona was arrested last week and charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony.

The 23-year-old woman allegedly presented herself as her mother in order to cover the loss of a diamond ring, said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe.

Gessner's bogus claim netted $7,412.45 from the insurance carrier for a 14-carat, white gold ring, which was never lost.

The defendant later admitted to Rockland County Special Investigations Unit detectives to filing the false claim.

Ramapo Justice Court Judge Alan Simon released Gessner on her own recognizance following her December 4 arraignment. She is due back in court tomorrow, December 11. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in state prison and a fine.
