Bogotá, Colombia - More than a year after the arrest of reputed Colombiano crime boss/traficante narcótico of the Norte del Valle drug cartel, Diego León Montoya Sánchez, now 47, the Colombian government has extradited him to the U.S. to stand trial.“He has already departed. 'Don Diego' (Montoya's alias) is en route to the United States," a police spokesman told AFP, noting the jet had taken off around 1550 GMT. "Colombia is closing a chapter in its fight against drug trafficking," police chief General Oscar Naranjo told reporters, adding: "This extradition is perhaps the most important in years." Diego’s arrest was the biggest hit to the illegal drug cartels since the capture of Pablo Escobar, and the Rodriguez-Orejuela brothers. Diego León Montoya Sánchez aka Don Diego or "El Señor de la Guerra," (the warlord as he was known in my hometown of Novita) was considered the most sought-after narcotrafficker in the world," said Minister of Defense Juan Manuel Santos.
