On a YouTube post broadcasted all weekend long about how she was going to come through Virgin Megastore in Times Square, Keri Hilson kept her word and stopped through last night to show her 'stans' love. Even in the face of adversity! Yes y'all, you know I am officially a 'Keri Hilson stan' ever since I attended and covered her birthday party event back in the ATL. So needless to say, you know I was there! She came in the store right before it was about to lock it's doors at 11:59 pm with fans waiting around - even after the store's DJ announced that there would be no new CD's put on the shelves for the evening. Keri and her entourage stormed the store as a crowd full of 'stans' (yours truly included) rushed to greet her on the wee hours of her album, In A Perfect World... release day. Keri and her crew then proceeded to the check out stand of the Virgin Megastore where some hatin' ass manager got mad that Keri's crew bum rushed - so he threatened to and then actually did call NYPD. Keri and her crew didn't care - she was there for her beloved 'stans!' With a box full of the CD in hand and promotional posters, Keri signed autographs, passed out CDs, took pics with fans. And right as we all got ushered out of the store by NYPD, Ryan Leslie showed up and we all walked down the streets of Time Square with Keri as she did her thing in true 'gangstress style' signing CDs, embracing her fans, and just looking beautiful as always. You'd think "in a perfect world" - especially one where the President is Black - that Virgin Mega would have a little more respect for the artists that helped their staff make their money throughout the years. But I guess the bitterness of that manager realizing his next position would involve saying "would you like fries with that order" stung harder then a bumblebee in hot Savannah, Georgia heat! Oh well...
Keri's album, In A Perfect World... is definitely a MUST PURCHASE today. I'm not only saying that as a new 'stan,' but she brings something new in the music game. With tracks like Intuition, Knock You Down featuring Kanye West & Ne-Yo, Alienated, Tell Him the Truth, Slow Dance, Make Love, and Get Your Money Up featuring Keyshia Cole & Trina - music lovers every where are going to love this debut album! I mean, it's already been a home run with the two singles, Energy and Turning Me On featuring Lil Wayne! So yeah, we may be in a recession and yeah you may be a little nervous checking out yet another new artist - but know this - Keri has written songs that have been hit for some of your favorite artists so the debut album is just the crème de la crème to her creative abilities. And you have MY word - its worth the purchase! I always rock hard for artists that rock hard for their fans... and Keri Hilson definitely proved to me last night she is in this for her fans!
She will be signing autographs and meeting fans TONIGHT at Wet Seal in Union Square starting at 6 pm! And then for me... the EXCLUSIVE album release party... keep you posted on that one!
