QB quits team so he can concentrate on studies

Back up quarterback Brian Hodges quit the Wake Forest football team yesterday because he wanted to concentrate on his academics more. He was in the midst of doing an internship and completing his degree.

"It was definitely wasn't easy," Hodges said. "I talked with my parents often, back and forth as to what's the best decision to do. I just thought it was better for me to concentrate on my school and get those grades needed to accomplish the goals that I wanted to have." It also doesn't hurt that Skinner is returning and he's the most accurate passer in ACC history and that you weren't going to start anyway in case he got injured. Now Wake Forest doesn't have anyone behind Skinner that has the least bit of experience. However you are looking out for your long term future and for that I do praise you. Its rare that they're athletes that can do something like put their education first. Think back to Myron Rolle, the Florida State safety that won the Rhodes scholarship and chose to study at Oxford.. It means they care about their life and want more of an insight and longevity of productivity aside from playing football.
