OF “ONE MINUTE TO SHINE” CONTEST


New York, NY - April 23, 2009 – Blackplanet.com, the largest African-American social network and part of the Interactive One network of African-American sites, is proud to announce the winner of its “One Minute To Shine” contest, a competition to find the next great aspiring music star from its vast network of aspiring talent.


The winner, Christopher Bivins, 18, hails from Baltimore , Maryland and will receive a grand prize package which includes an in-person meeting with a top record company executive, a photo shoot in New York City with GIANT Magazine, one of the leading urban lifestyle magazines, an interview with a selected Radio One radio station and $1,000 in cash.



“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. Winning this competition has given me the confidence and the credentials to show the world that I have talent as a singer, dancer and songwriter,” states Christopher Bivins. “It is my dream to become the next big star in R&B music.”


A resident of Baltimore , Maryland , Chris started out as a dancer, writing songs in his spare time to build his confidence. Soon after that, his friend and his mother convinced him that he had a great voice and should start singing. Today, he performs at local talent shows and sings in the choir of his church.


“We are thrilled to help Christopher get a little bit closer to his dreams,” said Maria Weaver Watson , Director of Marketing , Interactive One. “We know that many of our BlackPlanet members have considerable talent and it is our goal to work with them to help foster and reveal those talents to a larger audience both within the network and beyond.”
