The Beef Jerk(y) Thief Flashes Cops, Gets Tossed in Pokey

Talk about fanning the flames of a raging blaze. Sheboygen, Wisconsin police say a mother stripped in front of her children in an attempt to avoid arrest for shoplifting a bag of beef jerky and a lighter from a convenience store. Then, to add injury to insult, the woman began scraping with the arresting officers before flashing the officers through a squad car window.
Julia E. Laack, 36, of Sheboygan was charged Friday with felony battery of a peace officer, resisting an officer, shoplifting and two counts of disorderly conduct. This petty crime turned bizarre after a criminal complaint was sworn against the petty thief and police went to her home to serve her. Laack refused to come to the door, then began screaming and swearing at three children in her house, telling one of the children that it was his fault this was happening.

Itis not clear how police gained entry to the home, but once they did, they attempted to calm Laack down. With her children present, Laack stripped to her underwear and told the officers they couldn't arrest her because she would be naked. A struggle ensued once police began arresting Laack. The complaint alleges that Laack kicked one officer in the groin and spat in the mouth of another. Once in the squad car en route to the police station, the beef jerky thief mooned the officers by placing her derriere against the squad car window.

Laack had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of 0.112 percent. The legal blood-alcohol limit for driving is 0.08 percent. Laack was booked into the pokey last night and additional charges were added to the complaint. A man who answered the phone at her home declined comment.
