BIO: Ogho Oruma aka Lucky Dice is a Boston-born emcee who has been rhyming for over 20 years. He started spitting rhymes back in the late 80s around his neighborhood, the South End of Boston. “It was mostly for fun but it was still competitive,” Dice recalls, “My friends and I wanted to see who was nicer than whom.” In 1995, Dice started to take rhyming more serious.
It was his last year of high school and he hooked up with his current partner, B Knox, to form a rap group and work on new material. Then in ’96, Dice went off to Umass Amherst for college and in his first year of school he met another emcee that was sick in the head, by the name of REKS. After working on some music together, Lucky Dice, REKS, and B Knox formed a group called M.S.C. The group went on to perform at various shows and open for major acts like De La Soul and the Clipse to name a few. They were one of the first acts to perform at the first annual Boston Peace and Unity Festival at City Hall. In 2000, Lucky Dice had the opportunity to have his music distributed by a Boston-based record label called Brick Records. Together they released a 12inch single titled “Imagin That”, which sold over 1000 copies.
After a short stay with the label, Dice decided to move in a different direction, enrolling back in school full-time to finish his college education. In 2008, Lucky Dice re-surfaced as an emcee with a guest appearance on the song “Telescopes” featured on REKS’ album Grey Hairs. Since that guest appearance, Dice has put together a new project titled “Blowing Smoke” in a few months.
“This album is an adventure,” says Dice, “It has been a long road with many ups and downs, but at least my team and I have been able to stick together, keep recording new music, and living our dream.” The album Blowing Smoke is available for download on Lucky Dice’s MySpace page,, and be on the look-out for his new project, Sound Scan, scheduled to be completed and released by the summer of 2010.
