New York AG's Office Launches Raids After Dateline Expose

Six months after Dateline's Chris Hansen began an investigation into the terrorist tactics of shady debt collection agencies, The Attorney Generals office in New York launched an early morning raid that led to the arrest of several people including a convicted felon, Tobias Boylan, who was acting as a supervisor at one of the collection agencies in question. At the time of Boylan's arrest, he was found in possession of a loaded semi-automatic gun in his office and at his home.
Then on September 29, 2009, the AG's office launched another raid that led to the arrest of 12 of Boylan's employees. Each were charged with several counts of Grand Larceny. All have pleaded not guilty. Since the raids began, the AG's office has received more than 1000 complaints from consumers who have been victimized by the terrorist tactics of these debt collection agencies.

These shady "debt collectors" were going above and beyond the "normal" scare tactics many collectors utilize in order to squeeze blood, er, money out of consumers. These individuals were out right lying, posing as police officers and even an attorney.

One couple found themselves in the abyss of debt after paying astronomical hospital bills for the Cancer treatment their child was receiving. They were one of several consumers dealing with threats of arrest by these debt collectors. Another featured couple was up to date on their bills but still found themselves victims of these threatening calls. Watch the video here:
