Catholic Charities
The unemployed single mom is working to have her criminal record expunged. She is enrolled in a food service training program in the hopes of getting a license, and ultimately a job.
Rose Marie, 34, is taking these positive steps with the help of Catholic Charities' Supportive Assistance for Individuals and Families program, which is providing intensive support as Rose Marie works toward her long-term goal of becoming self-sufficient.
But in the short term, Rose Marie dreams of giving her daughters, ages 11 and 3, a happy Christmas. With support from the Greater Newark Holiday Fund, she may be able to reach this goal, too.
Newark Day Center
As Mr. K's cancer progressed, his longtime companion took charge of his care. She scheduled his medical appointments, made sure he kept them, and worked hard to keep his spirits up.
But in time, her own health began to fail. A Home Friend from Newark Day Center began helping her with light chores around the house, but soon even this was not enough.
Several months after Mr. K's companion was placed in a nursing home, she died.
Her death left Mr. K bereaved and alone, with no close relatives to rely on. During the last months of his own life, a Newark Day Center Home Friend became his mainstay of support, helping him to remain comfortable in his own home.
This much-needed support and companionship was made possible through support from the Greater Newark Holiday Fund.
