Grammy award winning singer Amy Winehouse, age 26, has an arrest for assault to add to her personal woes. She was charged this afternoon by Thames Valley police with assault over an incident that occurred at Milton Keynes Theatre on Saturday.

Arrest records show that Winehouse was charged under the name Amy Civil with a "public order offense and common assault."

Winehouse, with her attorney in tow, turned herself in to police and is scheduled to appear in court on January 20.

The singer has been dogged by drug addiction, rehab and her recent divorce from husband Blake Fielder-Civil earlier this year.

In 2007, she was booed off stage after appearing drunk and turning her show into a makeshift tribute to her then jailed husband. Hundreds left her Birmingham concert on the first night of her 17-date UK tour.

Winehouse once earned a scathing slight from fellow Grammy winning singer, Natalie Cole at the 2008 Grammy Awards ceremony.

Winehouse performed via satellite from London where she racked up five awards including the Grammy. Cole was reportedly quoted as saying, "I don’t think she deserved it (the Grammy). I think she needs to get her life together first, and then get the awards later."

Winehouse, whose singing voice has been compared to the likes of legends Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, is famous for her fusion of traditional jazz songwriting once likened to the style of the late Ray Charles and "modern hip-hop" approach to her music has hits such as "Rehab," "Back to Black" and "Tears Dry on Their Own."
