David Ortiz, 24, of Newark, was arrested after Newark police say he attacked a teen aged girl by forcing her to undress and allegedly groping her inside of a residential building said Detective Todd McClendon.

According to Detective McClendon, the victim's father learned of the assault after his daughter returned home. He tracked Ortiz down and located him at the apartment complex, but Ortiz fled in a blue mini-van. Newark police later spotted Ortiz near the Bloomfield Avenue train station where a foot chase ensued.

Members of the Newark Police, NJ Transit Police and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit captured Ortiz on the roof of a building on North 3rd Street, McClendon said.

Ortiz struggled with a police officer who caught him and was later taken to University Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being charged.

Ortiz, who already has three felony convictions, has been charged with luring, aggravated sexual contact, terroristic threats and resisting arrest.
