Cops are probing an allegation that disgraced former NY1 anchor Dominic Carter assaulted his wife again -- just days after he lamented to The Post that he "dropped the ball as a man" and would never strike her again, The Post has learned.
A source said yesterday that Ramapo Town Police had been told Carter -- due to be sentenced Thursday for punching, choking and kicking his wife, Marilyn, in October 2008 -- again assaulted her in their Rockland County home.
The stunning development comes just days after the couple gave a tearful interview to The Post about their history of marital strife.

"I'm owning up to any mistakes I've made in the past," Dominic told The Post in an article published on Sunday.

"I tried to be proactive and join classes for domestic abuse, because I think it can make me a better person.
"I've had time to reflect on my life -- and on how I dropped the ball as a man," he said. "I was in complete denial that I had a problem.
"I'm just so sorry."
Ramapo Town Police confirmed that they were probing a new matter and said they had visited the Carters' Pomona residence yesterday.
Police refused to reveal details about the case.
Sgt. Mike Colbath said officers filed a report on the case yesterday but would not make it publicly available for several days.
Marilyn Carter, 52, denied yesterday that Dominic had assaulted her.
"It's not true whatsoever," said Marilyn, a college administrator.
"I just had lunch with Dominic . . . I have not filed any police report. Nothing happened last night."
Dominic, 45, said, "There was no incident at my house" on Thursday night.
"My son and daughter are under enormous pressure from reporters asking questions," added Dominic, who refused to explain the significance of that comment.
Since 2003, Marilyn has filed multiple police reports alleging physical and verbal abuse by Dominic -- only to either not pursue charges against him or to claim the attacks didn't happen.
After The Post revealed those incidents last October, cable station NY1 announced that Dominic, its longtime political anchor, was taking an indefinite leave of absence.
On Oct. 22, 2008, Marilyn told cops that Dominic had beaten her after calling her a "dumb project bitch."
Dominic was charged with assault in the case. Marilyn soon afterward tried to have it dropped by claiming she actually had been assaulted by a day laborer.
But Ramapo Town Justice Arnold Etelson, who called Marilyn's day-laborer tale "preposterous," convicted Dominic of attempted assault -- rather than assault -- two months ago.
Dominic, who intends to appeal, faces up to three months in prison.
