The man that led Phillipsburg police on that wild car chase through town on Monday has been identified as 47-year-old Torrence Thomas of Edison, N.J.
Police say Thomas was spotted driving what turned out to be a stolen vehicle that had been carjacked in Elizabeth, NJ a week earlier.
A police cruiser's license plate reader identified the 1991 Volkswagen GTI as stolen and when police attempted to pull the driver over, he fled.
The 10-minute chase, which involved five officers, ended when Thomas bailed from the vehicle on Firth and Marshall Streets, then ran from police. The foot pursuit ended in a residential yard on Firth Street sometime after 1:00 PM.
Thomas was apprehended and placed in the Warren County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond, He has been charged with possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, eluding police, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It is not known if Thomas has an attorney.
