Essex County police from four different jurisdictions were led on a high-speed chase by a Newark resident and her 16-year-old accomplice.

Shantiek Armstrong, 24, and her friend were apprehended in Verona after their grab-n-dash stunt at Lord & Taylor in the Livingston Mall. They are accused of stealing $1,800 in designer handbags, jeans and shoes, all of which have been recovered by police.

Employees of Lord & Taylor notified police around 12 noon that two people had taken merchandise from the store and fled in a Pontiac Sunfire. An officer patrolling the mall spotted the car and gave chase going north on Eisenhower Parkway.

Armstrong, who also faces possession of burglary tools, is being held in jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. The 16-year-old, also charged with conspiracy to shoplift, will be given a juvenile court date then released to her parents.
