Seacacus police shut down an alleged illegal club Friday night after someone noticed a marquee boasting a comedy event for the same evening on the old Channel 41 building. The anonymous caller tipped off the towns Mayor, who in turn, notified police.

Police arrived at the Meadowlands Parkway around 7:45 p.m. to find 200 patrons standing outside the makeshift nightclub waiting to enter the illegal nightclub for a comedy event featuring popular comedian, Earthquake.

When police entered the building, they found an illegal bar replete with a buffet. Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli said the wanna-be club owner applied for proper state and local permits, but was denied. The woman did not have a license to sell liquor.

Gonnelli said about 600 tickets were sold through Ticketweb for the comedy event, which expected to host almost 800 patrons. All event goers left the building peacefully and no arrests were made.
