Lawrence "Lonnie" Taylor, formerly of the NY Giants was arrested early Thursday morning in connection with an alleged rape that occurred in Montebello, New York at the Holidome Hotel during the early morning hours of May 6.

Ramapo police Detective Lt. Brad Weidel says at this time, the former linebacker has not been formally charged, but he expects charges to be filed as soon as Rockland County police complete their investigation.

Officer Maschaek of the Ramapo Police Department told the New Jersey Newsroom that an press conference has been scheduled between 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the Ramapo Town Hall where Lt. Weidel will discuss further details of Taylor's arrest.

Taylor, 51, often said to be one of the greatest defensive players in the history of the NFL, currently resides in Pembroke Pines, Florida, also has a home in New Jersey. The rape allegation is the second time in less than a year the Hall of Fame linebacker has been in trouble with the law. In November 2009 Taylor was arrested in Miami-Dade County, Fla. after police say he left the scene of an accident.

Taylor's off-field life has been marred by admitted drug abuse since leaving the NFL in 1993. He played 13 seasons with the New York Giants (1981-93) and was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams. He was the NFL's MVP in 1986 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Taylor was recently a contestant on the 8th season of Dancing with the Stars where he partnered with Edyta Śliwińska. He was eliminated April 21, 2009 during week seven of the contest.
