River Vale police have arrested Kinga Malkowska, 27 of Saddle Brook, and charged her with three counts of theft after they say the daughter of a housekeeper developed light fingers in at least five of the Bergen County homes she once helped her mother clean.

Police, who say Malkowska is the only person charged in the thefts at this time, are advising homeowners who have utilized Malkowska's cleaning service to check their jewelry boxes.

"Take inventory. Check before you hire someone," Detective John DeVoe said.

According to WABC, Malkowska is employed by Grazyna "Gina" Sapinski who is an independent cleaning contractor. Investigators say Malkowska, is the daughter of the longtime housekeeper of one of the victims, Antoinette Gangi. She is accused of stealing jewelry from Gangi and other victims, then hocking the loot at a Washington Heights pawnshop.

Suspicious about items missing from her home, Gangi once questioned the mother, daughter team, but told WABC that both denied stealing anything. "Her mother was crying. I felt bad," Gangi told WABC.

"I have diamonds. They were all left. She took the gold. It's quick cash."

WABC went to Malkowska's Saddle Brook home where her mother answered the door telling the reporters, "I have a cleaning service." When the reporter asked if her daughter had, in fact, been arrested, mother Malkowska replied, "What? I was not arrested."

Shamefully, a neighbor of the Malkowska's claims he, too was robbed.

"This is the 20-thousand dollar watch she sold for 200 in Washington Heights," Abdul Souda told WABC TV.

Fed up after the previous three break-ins, Souda said he had enough and called the fuzz.

"I called police at midnight. They were here for hours taking fingerprints, and found they were hers and got a warrant for her arrest," Souda said.

Malkowska has been released pending a June 1 court date. The River Vale Police Department is asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Malkowska to contact law enforcement immediately.
