Former Run DMC member Darryl McDaniels is pushing a campaign for public awareness on safe child care.

McDaniels, in conjunction with Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration, has radio ads out as part of his campaign is urging New Yorkers to think long and hard about who they allow to provide child care for their children.

The city and McDaniels, who said Thursday that violence against children cannot be tolerated, used the recent spike in child deaths at the hands of caregivers to launch the campaign.

This year, nine children younger than age 2, have been killed while in the care of babysitters, their fathers or companions of their mothers. Officials recorded three caregiver related deaths in 2009.
