EMT Used 'Fireman's Key' in Elevator Sexual Assaults

The man police say is responsible for a series of rapes in the city has been ordered held without bond tonight following his arraignment, the Brooklyn district attorney's office said.

Officials say 33-year-old Angus Pascall was living a double life as a sexual predator and an emergency medical technician with New York City.

Pascall is accused of utilizing a universal elevator control key issued to him by this employer to trap one of his victims earlier this month at a public housing project in Brooklyn. In that case, his victim, an 11-year-old girl, was sodomized by Pascall at gunpoint while in the elevator, said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

The key Pascall used is issued to most uniformed Fire Department employees to summon a car and then hold it in place during emergency situations. The keys can also open subway gates, in order to allow emergency personnel access to platforms and secluded areas of stations during emergencies.

Many transit workers are issued those keys as well. Copies of the keys routinely fall into the hands of civilians. Transit officials say they have seized dozens of those keys every year from civilian who use them to sneak into the subways.

Investigators say that Pascall's first known sexual attack occurred in 2001, long before his employment as an EMT. That first attack was a 22-year-old woman who Pascall raped at gunpoint in her home. Two of the assaults he is accused of committing took place in elevators, including the 11-year-old girl.

Pascall has been linked to two assaults last year when a 14-year-old was attacked behind an apartment building and a 19-year-old woman was assaulted in an elevator.

His most recent sexual assault led to his arrest after the 20-year-old woman was able to record the license plate number of Pascall's vehicle as he drove away. She later told investigators the man forced her into a car at gunpoint Monday afternoon where he raped her.

All three victims were able to pick Pascall out of lineups, police say.

At the time of his arrest, Pascall was facing an earlier domestic violence charge that is still pending, according to court records. His last scheduled court appearance on that charge was Monday, the same day as the latest rape. He was expected to return to court on Tuesday, but was arrested for the rapes instead.

All the alleged attacks occurred while Pascall was off-duty, investigators say.
