Two violent deaths marred Independence Day holiday celebrations this weekend in Hudson County, NJ.Com reported.

The first stabbing took place outside of Hollywood Fried Chicken, on Bergen Ave. in Jersey City. Police say Darnell Williams, of Jersey City was stabbed to death around 1 a.m. Saturday. His murder is currently under investigation.

The second fatal stabbing claimed the life of a Union City man on the porch of a 44th Street home sometime after 2 a.m. Saturday. Police told the Jersey Journal that Ricardo Cruz was last seen alive around 2 a.m. drinking on the front porch of 521 44th Street.

Details of Cruz' death are sketchy at this time, but Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said reports were "incomplete" and that Hudson County police were working with Union City police to investigate the circumstances of the 48-year-old man's death. So far, homicide detectives have questioned one person in relation to the murder. That person's name was not released to the media.

The landlord of the 44th Street apartment building told the Jersey Journal that he believes a neighbor spotted Cruz's dead body and reported it to police around 7:30 a.m. The landlord said Cruz lived in a basement apartment and was employed as construction worker.

Union City police said they do not believe Cruz knew his attacker. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.
Anyone with information about either of two homicides should contact the Prosecutor's Office Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345.
