Police have identified the suspect and victim in the Cameo Adult Theater stabbing Friday night, said Kathy Carter, spokeswoman from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Garrick Farmer, 40, of Newark, died of multiple stab wounds to the upper torso after an altercation at the Broad Street theatre and investigators say Michael Antonio, also know as Michael Handy, 29, of the Bronx is responsible.
Detective Hubert Henderson, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department, said Farmer and Antonio were inside the theater around 6:30 p.m. when a scuffle began forcing theater workers to turn the lights up. At some point, Farmer ended up stabbed, police were called and Antonio was placed under arrest, The Star-Ledger reported.
Farmer was transported to the University of Medicine and Dentistry hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Antonio has been charged with murder and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Anyone with information about the stabbing may call the Newark Police Department’s 24-hour “Crime Stoppers” anonymous tip line at 877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or NWK-GUNS (877 695-4867).
