The Willis Avenue Bridge in the Bronx is getting a face lift.
The 2,400-ton swing bridge that has connected Upper Manhattan to the South Bronx for over 109 years is set to replace a 350-foot-long portion of the bridge today. The span was constructed at a port in Albany and transported to Bayonne, N.J., last week aboard two barges welded together.
She'll pass beneath the Brooklyn Bridge and arrive at the Harlem River sometime Monday.
The new bridge is scheduled for installation Aug. 2 and crews will remove the existing span Sept. 20.
