Police say all lanes of Route 1 South were reopened around 12:30 p.m. in Edison after an early morning crash Tuesday that backed up traffic for miles.
The 5:50 a.m. accident occurred near Old Post Road when a vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing Route 1, then knocked over a utility pole. The car vehicle came to rest in a nearby BMW dealership and damaged at least one car. The Edison police and fire departments, the state Department of Transportation, State Police and PSE&G all responded to the accident.
