Russell Simmons vs. Bossip..the loser..Black New Media

The Black Urban Times

The recent spat played out online between hip-hop mogul, Russell Simmons and gossip blog, Bossip, just goes to show you that the "crab in the barrell" syndrome amongst Blacks doesn't only apply to physical properties.Black New Media has only a few properties that command the kind of pageviews and visitors both Bossip and Global Grind generate.
Bossip made the error of referring to Mr. Simmons as "Blood Diamond Russ", a clear insult to a man who has done so much for the hip-hop and african-american community, to make a list of his achievements would take up this entire blog. While Bossip, has taken the online black gossip world by storm with sharp commentary and witty acknowledgments of rumors harshly given quotes like "when the checks stop coming."

The problem with the argument between Bossip and Mr. Simmons is that its something that should have been taken care of "at home." Where's home? Home is the online space behind the scenes that owners of top Black new media blogs keep their dialogue. That space was revealed with Mr. Simmons and Bossip's childish, playground online spat. The world of "Black new media" is growing everyday and would appreciate if the owners of two successful websites would keep their arguments quiet and "at home."

Some of us who happen to be members of the "Black New Media", aspire to be taken seriously by noteworthy media outlets. Some of us are aspiring to be more than a place to see pictures of "Kat Stacks's baby's father" or "Lindsey Lohan's upskirt pics." When was the last time you read a story about billionaire, Mayor Mike Bloomberg, owner of Bloomberg.com argue with the owner of TMZ..Never.

So Mr. Simmons, owner of GlobalGrind.com and Ms. Frazier, owner of Bossip.com, in your diatribe that had one of you calling the other one "Bitch Ass", try to remember that you represent more to the landscape of "Black New Media" than the total number of pageviews and visitors than both of your websites combined.
