Three Alarm Blaze in Bronx Injures Six

A three alarm blaze in the South Bronx ripped through a Sheridan Avenue apartment building across the street from William Taft High School last week displacing several tenants and leaving six people, including four fireman, with minor injuries.

All tenants were safely evacuated from 1504 Sheridan Avenue after the 3:30 p.m. blaze ignited in one of the building's fifth-floor apartments.

Jason Monegro was the first to call 911 after he saw flames coming from an electrical outlet near the television in his aunt’s apartment.

“I saw smoke coming out of my cousin’s bedroom,” Monegro said. “And then I saw the crib catch on fire. Monegro attempted to distinguish the flames, according to Bronx Ink, but when he was unsuccessful, he immediately dialed 911.

Two ladder companies responded to the blaze, which took approximately 45 minutes to extinguish. ........FULL STORY
