Three Deptford residents have been charged in connection with a beating that occurred Monday afternoon.

Police say a neighbor called police around 4 p.m. Monday to report the assault of Antonio Negron, of Wildwood. When officers arrived, they found Negron, 25, lying on the ground outside the Pasadena Avenue home of one of the suspects, Dennis McCall.

One man and a male teenager were standing nearby: Kenneth Jernegan, 50, of Pasadena Avenue, and a 17-year-old Deptford boy. After a brief investigation, police arrested all three.

Negron, who had reportedly been dating McCall’s 22-year-old daughter, was taken to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where he was listed in critical condition with head injuries.

McCall, 47 and Jernegan were charged with attempted homicide and were placed in the Gloucester County Jail in Woodbury in lieu of $150,000 bail each. Jernegan was slapped with an additional charge of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; investigators said he used a piece of lumber to hit Negron.

The juvenile, whose name is being withheld by police because of his age, was also in custody.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the assault.
