Captain Sully was no where to be found this time, but it was still a miraculous and daring landing made by a pilot flying an NYPD helicopter as she was forced to crash land into Jamaica Bay Wednesday afternoon.
The crew on board were providing security for President Barack Obama’s arrival at the United Nations. Thanks to the quick-thinking of veteran pilot, whose name has not yet been released, lives were spared, 1010wins.com reported.
"We were lucky," Police Commissioner Robert Kelly told CBS News. “The pilot stated as she was coming in for a landing to refuel, she heard a loud bang and then lost altitude rapidly."
With only seconds to spare, the pilot deployed flotation devices, which enabled the chopper to land upright. All six NYPD officers aboard escaped serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for observation.
NYPD scuba diver Mike Casali, who was aboard the chopper when it went down said he was proud of the pilot and how she handled the situation.
