DISGUSTED: Police Commissioner Ray Kelly yesterday details the arrests of gang members charged in horrific gay-bashing sex attacks.
The terrifying assaults -- during which the thugs whipped, slashed and used a plunger and baseball bat to sodomize their gay victims in an apartment-turned-torture chamber -- was the work of the ruthless Latin King Goonies gang, police said.
"These suspects employed terrible wolf-pack odds of 9 against 1 -- odds which revealed them as predators whose crimes were as cowardly as they were despicable," said Kelly, who held the rare news briefing to denounce the attacks.
Gov. Paterson also condemned last Sunday's violence as "vile bigotry and brutality" -- as did City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Quinn called the attacks "even more despicable because the victims were clearly targeted in acts of hate simply because they are gay."
The two 17-year-olds and a 30-year-old man were assaulted, Kelly said. A fourth man, the 30-year-old victim's brother, was tied up and robbed.
The first attack came at 3:30 a.m. after some of the Goonies spotted one of the teens, who wanted to join the gang, with the man and dragged the boy into a dilapidated apartment in Morris Heights, officials said.
