Soprano chanteuse Celine Dion checked herself into St. Mary's Medical Centre in West Palm Beach, Florida Tuesday as a pre-natal precaution, according to media outlets.
A representative for Dion issued a statement obtained by People magazine, saying, "Ms. Celine Dion has been admitted to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida for observation at the recommendation of her doctors. She has been admitted to prevent the early delivery of her babies, which is the standard of care for any patient with twin pregnancy in this clinical setting."
Dion has been married to her former manager, Rene Angélil, a man she declared the "colour of her love" in the dedication section of her third album, since 1994. Together they have one child, son Rene Charles who is 9-years-old.
Dion suffered a miscarriage in November 2009, but she and husband Rene, who is 26 years her senior, continued trying to conceive. Six In vitro fertilisation treatments later, Dion's publicist, Marleah Leslie, announced in May that the 42-year-old Queen of Pop was pregnant with twins and is due to give birth in November 2010.
Dion, a native of Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada, told The New York Daily News earlier this year that her mission to conceive consisted of daily hormone injections and painful tests.
"We are living the reality of the majority of couples who have to use [IVF], " Angelil, 67, told The the Canadian paper Journal de Montreal. "The process can be long and arduous."
"Celine and I didn't get discouraged," he added. "We put our faith in life and in the stars."
After the birth of her twins, Dion is set to return to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for a three year run in 2011.
