Rising Star: Hakim

The birthplace of Hip Hop (Bronx, NY) continues to be a breeding ground for fresh new Hip Hop artists. The newest blazing talent they produced goes by the name ‘Hakim’. With his first single “Baby Shake That Thing” gaining close to 100,000 views on ‘WorldStarHipHop’ in just one week, he is destined to become a superstar. “It was an excellent feeling…I expected it to do good but not that good.” Hakim said.

Hakim was raised in a single mother household in the Bronx and Peekskill, NY. Hakim grew up listening to artists such as Jay-z, 2pac, and Biggie. They influenced him and his childhood friend, Strategy, to form a duo rap group in 1998 called “Unlimited.” They gained local success until his friend went on an iron vacation (Prison) causing Hakim to go solo.

Hakim wants to get one thing across in his music, he states, “I want to tell my life story,” which is a very interesting one. Hakim gained his street smarts from the tough Bronx neighborhoods, where he was shot and stabbed. But yet he also has book smarts since attending Westchester Community College, where he majored in Business. He used his business knowledge while working at a car dealership and then he later bought and operated his own car dealership.

Hakim's style of rapping is a “NY style” and he wants to work with all of the big acts of today like “Kanye West, Jadakiss, Swizz Beatz, and Dr. Dre.” Hakim has done some modeling on the side and he plans to do some acting if everything continues to go in his favor. Hakim has built a sturdy ground base for himself and in his future Hakim states, “I want to be relevant.”
