Miami Takeover 2011

The 4th Annual Miami Takeover Committee and event planners, Wylie K. & Friends and VP Productions, extend their gratitude to the City of Miami and South Beach for hosting the fourth weekend of entertainment and community service and also to the residents and travelers who made the event a success.

Approximately 900 residents from Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, Philadelphia, Charlotte, etc. recently returned from Miami Takeover where they enjoyed four large-scale, celebrity events. Weekend highlights included a sold-out Saturday night extravaganza with hip-hop great Doug E. Fresh and a beach sweep on Sunday, July 24 with support from the Environmental Coalition of Miami and the Beaches (ECOMB).

The goal for the beach sweep was to provide a benefit and service to Miami versus simply enjoying the nightlife scene. This experience proved to be special for volunteers who learned about the damage of plastics, trash and other debris to the Miami area beaches and wildlife. Several vacationers on the beach expressed their gratitude and some even joined in the cleanup! The beach sweep was a true highlight of the weekend and we look forward to returning next year for another important community project.

Here is a thank you from ECOMB:

“My sincerest gratitude goes out to you and the entire Wylie K. and Friends group for a wonderful event On Sunday! We hope you enjoyed the event. All in all, your group collected 8 full bags of trash and 2.5 bags of recyclables. We are planning to share the information about the straws you collected with local authorities. Thanks again for your support of ECOMB, the Environmental Coalition of Miami and the Beaches. Your contribution goes a long way to help us implement environmental education initiatives in our community.” – Michelle Acosta, ECOMB Litter Prevention Project Coordinator.
