Wilmington, NC Politician Treated for Alleged Suicide Attempt

A New Hanover County politician was rushed to a Wilmington, North Carolina hospital following an alleged suicide attempt.

According to the Wilmington Star, police received a 911 call to Commissioner Brian Berger's home in the 500 block of Commons Way sometime after 11:40 p.m.. A police report states that Berger, who had been using "drugs or alcohol" at the time of the incident, suffered a “minor” injury from a razor and was in possession of a .40-caliber pistol and ammunition. Medical personnel transported the victim to New Regional Medical Center and he was released sometime later. The Commissioner denied he tried to kill himself, telling the Wilmington Star, "If I did, I'd be dead. There would be no attempt with me. It would be success or no attempt," said Berger.
