Mayor Cory Booker and other Dignitaries Discuss Incarcerated, Formerly Incarcerated and Families at National Symposium



“THINK OUTSIDE THE CELL” –FORUM TO ADDRESS HUMAN COST OF MASS INCARCERATION AND RECIDIVISM

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and El Diario Publisher Rossana Rosado to Discuss Issues Affecting Incarcerated, Formerly Incarcerated and their Families

On Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11amNewark Mayor Cory Booker will be among the dignitaries leading a discussion about the human cost of mass incarceration and recidivism.  The discussion will be part of a national symposium taking place that same day at the Riverside Church called Think Outside the Cell: A New Day, A New Way . 


The symposium will focus on issues affecting the incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and their families and will be presented by the Think Outside The Cell Foundation, founded by former New York Times reporter Sheila Rule. The program is funded by the Ford Foundation and in full partnership with The Fortune Society, The College and Community Fellowship and The Riverside Church Prison Ministry.


Among the keynote speakers and panelists will be Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, Food Network Chef Jeff Henderson, El Diario Publisher Rossana Rosado, Youth Advocate Terrie Williams, President of John Jay College of Criminal Justice Jeremy Travis, Author Michelle Alexander, Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture Khalil Muhammad, and Co-Director of Justice Strategies for Center for Community Alternatives Alan Rosenthal.

WHAT:           Newark Mayor Cory Booker will be among the dignitaries leading a discussion about the human cost of mass incarceration and recidivism as part of the national symposium Think Outside the Cell.  This national symposium is presented by the Think Outside The Cell Foundation, in full partnership with The Fortune Society, The College and Community Fellowship and The Riverside Church Prison Ministry.
