It's no secret that Rick Perry's just a stereotypical racist Texas 'good old boy,' and the fact that his family hunting camp is called "Niggerhead" is further proof of it.
What makes it even worse is that Perry only decided to care about the name given to the camp when it became politically inconvenient to do otherwise.
Rick Perry took over the lease on his family's hunting camp in rural Paint Creek, Texas, and at that time a rock which served as a greeting of sorts to the entrance of the camp included the name "Niggerhead." Writing placenames on rock outcroppings isn't unusual in that area. The problem is that neither Perry nor his family ever saw a need to change the name of the camp. Now that it's come up Perry claims thatthe rock was whitewashed over in the early 1980s, but according to scores of sources that simply isn't true. Family friends claim the "Niggerhead" sign remained well into Perry's term as Governor of Texas.
