Dollar Tree, Dollar General Stores Catching Hell

Dollar Tree and Dollar General stores all over the United States have become targets for armed robberies lately.

Over the past five months, several stores from California to Mississippi to Delaware and South Carolina, have been robbed at gunpoint.

A news release from the Rocklin, California Police Department stated that detectives arrested three women who robbed a Dollar Tree store in Rocklin at gunpoint last week. Investigators say the two remaining suspects have been identified, but are not in custody.

According to the press release, the suspects entered the Lonetree Blvd. Dollar Tree store shortly before closing time. One of the female suspects, armed with two handguns, grabbed a male employee and pushed him to the floor. Her co-conspirators held the man at gunpoint while the female robber ordered another employee to open the cash registers. The gun wielding thugs took off with an undetermined amount of cash.

Investigators said anonymous tips, video footage from a surveillance camera and cell phone records led to the arrest of:
Loriann Prout, 27, and Victoria Micheels, 32, both of Roseville, and Enery Toro, 22, of Rocklin. The women were charged with robbery, false imprisonment, assault and conspiracy then booked into the Placer County Jail. They are being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Across the Country in Delaware, State Police in Wilmington are searching for a man they say cased the Faulkland Road Dollar Tree store near Prices Corner before robbing it.

In a press release, State police said the robber lingered near the cashier as she waited upon a paying customer. When the hoodlum saw the register open, he pulled a push 'n' grab by shoving the clerk aside and grabbed money from the register before fleeing on foot.

Investigators say the suspect is a "man, wearing a gray jacket." Further information says the suspect is described as 20-30 years old, about 5-feet, 8-inches tall and wearing dark pants. No word on the bandit's complexion or possible ethnicity. That may help bring in tips as to the robber's identification.

Troopers ask that anyone with information to call detectives at (302) 834-2630, ext. 6 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.

In South Carolina, Richland County Sheriff's Deputies are still on the hunt for a man they believe robbed a Dollar General store in November 2012.

Detectives say the modus operandi of the robber in the Two Notch road robbery fits the m.o. of a man that robbed two Dollar General stores on Beltline Blvd. and Leesburg Road and a Hardee's on Rosewood Drive in Columbia.

During each of the robberies at both Dollar Generals the thief entered the stores and pretended to make a purchase before brandishing a firearm and demanding cash.

As the thug was sticking up the Two Notch Road store, a frightened customer ran out a back door after witnessing the robbery and tripped the alarm, which scared the desperado and he left without any loot. The incident was caught on surveillance video. Check out the video:

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is working to determine if the robberies are related and ask that anyone with information about the incidents, or recognize the robber, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or www.sccrimestoppers.com.

In the meantime, a Mississippi man learned he will spend the next 45 years in prison for his part in a Dollar Tree store robbery in May 2012.

Lyndon Myers, of Canton, was found guilty of three counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. The really sad part: Myers was employed at the Dollar Tree store at the time of the robbery.

In a press release, District Attorney Michael Guest stated, "As an employee of the store, Myers actions placed the lives of his friends and co-workers at risk. His disregard for their safety and his cowardly act of recruiting his younger cousin to commit the crime, because he knew that he would be identified, justified sending Myers to prison for most of the rest of his life."

Myers and his co-conspirator and cousin, Earnest Johnson entered the Madison Dollar Tree around closing time. The men held employees at gunpoint and forced them to duct tape each other. The defendants forced other employees to place money inside a Dollar Tree bag and fled the scene in a red Pontiac Grand Prix with Myers driving and Johnson riding shotgun.

One of the employees was able to free herself and dialed 911. Madison County law enforcement agencies received a description of the robbers and their vehicle. During a traffic stop on Interstate 55, officers stopped the suspects vehicle and placed the duo in custody. While searching for the vehicle, police uncovered a Dollar Tree plastic bag with approximately $3,118 in cash and the pistol used by 20-year-old Johnson.

Myers, who Johnson said was the ringleader, must serve 35 years of his prison sentence before he can be considered for parole or early release. The last ten years of the prison sentence was suspended. Myers was already on probation for sale of controlled substance at the time of the Dollar Tree store robbery.

In exchange for testifying against Myers. Johnson entered a guilty plea and received 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with the last 15 years suspended.

Guest lauded the work of MPD and Madison deputies saying their combined efforts resulted in the two defendants being arrested within minutes of fleeing the crime scene and enabling the district attorney's office to bring the case to trial in less than six months. Talk about a speedy trial.
