Wife Kills Husband, Cites 'Verbal Abuse'

A stunning chronicle of verbal abuse -- including a nasty tirade about her "obesity" -- was presented today at the trial of a wife charged with blowing away her fire-marshal husband in their Staten Island home.
"He told me he 'Was sick of living with someone who has a futile attitude towards [sic] her obesity,'" according to a stinging domestic abuse claim filed by Janet Redmond-Mercereau on April 16, 2006 -- nearly two years before the December slaying of her 38-year-old husband, Supervising Fire Marshal Douglas Mercereau.
Mercereau has pleaded not guilty in the Dec. 2, 2007, slaying.
Her deposition was an expletive-laced expose of an alleged nearly two-week-long campaign of cringe-worthy abuse.
