Senator Rand Calling For Overhaul of Probation, Parole System

The recent arrest of Mario McNeil, the man seen carrying young Shaniya Davis on video footage from a hotel in North Carolina has State Sen. Tony Rand calling for an overhaul of the probation system that he plans to soon head when he steps down as Senate majority leader.

Rand said the criminal history of McNeil demonstrates the need for more tools to help probation officers do their jobs.

"That's why I have been raising hell and why we have put together this pilot project," said Rand.

The pilot program, being set up in Raleigh, provides a database that allows law enforcement, probation officers, court clerks, district attorneys to keep a better on parolees and those on probation.
