Check out the interview below:
1. Why has it been so long since we've heard from Mia X?
My parents died 5 months apart, followed by 12 other reletives in an 18 month span. My children were still young, (and) my mom cared for them while i was on the road-- We don't do nannys! So, I had to take care of my kids and grieve. My sister was also in school, and I wanted to make sure she pursued her dream. I'm happy to say my kids are grown, hard working, productive, good citizens, living on their own, and my sister, Ashley, is a Doctor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Genetics.
2. Are you still a No Limit soldier?
I'm a No Limit soulja for life! I helped create the movement.
3. If not, how is your relationship at this point in time with Master P and Silkk The Shocker?
I'm in touch and hang out with everyone from the early No Limit. We are family! I haven't seen P or Silkk in years, but I love them forever, too.
4. When can we expect the second single? And, when is the album coming out?
My single "Hush" is available on Amazon and iTunes now, and the album Betty Rocka-Locksmith will be released in February 2010.
5. As a female in the rap game, how difficult would you say it is to maintain in this industry?
Male or Female, it's important to make records that will jam for decades to come. Good music is timeless and will help preserve your staying power.
6. How have you been able to stay away from the drama that comes with females in the game (such as rumors, gossip, beef)?
I've tried not to be catty all my life. I don't have the patience for arguments or gossip. I don't entertain it, and I always got enough of my own shit going on anyway. I have yet to move out of my glass house!
7. What are your thoughts on the females that are now dominating the rap game (such as Nicki Minaj, Lola Monroe)?
I think Nicki and Lola are beautiful, and I wish them success on their grind. Many people seem to love them, too.
8. I loved your new video (where you pay homage to the old school)! Do you think with the way things are nowadays with women having to show off their assets to get attention...Do you ever feel you would have to go that route?
I dropped my first independent single in 1992, sold 77,000 copies, and people still jam it hard in the clubs Down South. People still jam my stuff from No Limit, too, and most of that is over a decade old as well, so I don't see a reason for me to change up. We got enough sex kittens burning up the charts, doing what they do. Mia X is middle of the street, spittin' the raw real. I represent single mothers, working women, sistas with the "gotta get it" mentality, and everyday people trying to turn 15 cents into a dollar. I'm not mad at nobody for taking off their clothes tho, gotta do whatcha gotta do I guess! But, I'm keeping mine on till I get in bed with my man! Lol!
9. What's next for Mia X?
I'm also working on a mix-tape, Unladylike Forever, and I'm opening a Supper Club in New Orleans, True Friends, with my friend of 27 years, Lizzell. And, I will continue to work closely in the community, and with the non-profits around the city. I also want to thank the people, and NYC Gossip Girl, for showing me love because I've been gone so long, and I realize yall could be listening to so many current artists. So, to just have me in the mix is a blessing.
10. If people wanted to keep up with you where can they go (such as website, myspace, facebook or twitter)?
My My Space is (click here)
My Facebook is (click here)
My Twitter is (click here)
I wish Mia X nothing but success and happiness! Here's a throwback joint from Mia below called "Wanna Be With You":
