2010 won't ring in well for HipHop star Lil Wayne. The Lollipop hitmaker, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, appeared in Manhattan State court this morning where the judge sentenced him to a year-long prison stay for gun charges stemming from his 2007 arrest in New York where police found a loaded weapon on his tourbus.
Carter struck a plea deal with New York prosecutors in October in an effort to cut down the amount of time he'd have to serve.
In addition to his prison sentence, Carter is due to stand trial in March 2010 on drug possession charges following his Yuma, Arizona arrest in January 2008.
There's been no word on where Carter will serve his prison term which is set to begin
on February 9, 2010, one week after his new album "Rebirth" is set to be released. Fans have eagerly awaited the release of "Rebirth" which was delayed by several months.
