Maurice Decaul is the focus of The New York Times' one in 8 million this week. After serving more than four-years on active duty and in the reserves with America's most elite fighting branch of the military, the Marines, Decaul 29, is now a student at Columbia, majoring in creative writing.

Decaul spent five months in Nasiriya, Iraq with his Marine reserve unit and says that his poetry and writing are "a way of dealing with what's going on in my head."
